External Insulation Grant FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) ABOUT SEAI External Insulation Grants
If you’re thinking about improving your home’s insulation and want to know how the SEAI Insulation Grants work, you’re not alone.
Most people want answers about which types of insulation are covered, how to check if they’re eligible, how much money they can receive, and how to get through the application process quickly.
SEAI Grants give homeowners in Ireland a chance to upgrade attic, wall, or floor insulation, cutting down on heat loss, reducing energy bills, and making homes warmer and more comfortable. On top of that, you’re doing your bit for the environment and adding value to your property.
This FAQ answers the questions people ask most so you can see if applying for an SEAI Insulation Grant makes sense for you.
How much can I receive in SEAI grants for external wall insulation?
The grant amounts vary based on your house type:
- Apartment or Mid-Terrace House: €3,500
- Semi-detached or End of Terrace: €6,000
- Detached House: €8,000
What additional benefits do SEAI grants offer?
SEAI grants support energy home improvements, helping make your home more efficient and comfortable, while also boosting its market value.
Who Can Apply?
Homeowners, including private landlords, can apply as long as their property was built and occupied before 2011. This date is determined by when the electricity meter was installed.
Each property is eligible for grant funding only once per type of work. If your property has already received wall insulation grants through the Better Energy Homes scheme or any other government initiative, further funding for the same work won’t be available.
Can you explain what a Building Energy Rating (BER) is?
A BER is akin to the energy labels on appliances, rating homes from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). This certificate is mandatory for homes sold or rented in Ireland since January 1st, 2009.
