You’re probably wondering how much support is out there and who qualifies. Here’s a straight answer.

What Grants Can You Get?

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) runs several schemes:

1. Better Energy Homes Scheme

• For homes built and occupied before 2006.

• Grant covers a chunk of your costs (3,500, €6,000 and 8,000).

• You must use SEAI-registered contractors and approved new materials.

2. National Home Energy Upgrade Scheme

• Targets a BER of B2 or higher.

• The higher your energy rating after the work, the more efficient (and warmer) your home will be.

Grant values for external wall insulation:

• Apartment: €3,000

• Mid-Terrace house: €3,500

• Semi-detached or End of Terrace house: €6,000

• Detached house: €8,000

You can only claim a grant once per property and the work must reach all SEAI standards.

Who’s Eligible?

• If your home was built and lived in before 2006, you’re likely eligible.

• For low-income households, free upgrades may be available (special criteria apply).

• The work has to be carried out by an SEAI-registered contractor—we fit the bill here.
